GHT001 - Prince Kong - Proper Horror Show
2X 12" Vinyl
Kings of club music have been known to pop up all across the globe,
from London to Berlin to Detroit and beyond, but who would have guessed
that the next big innovator in dance music would emerge from Dublin?
Sure enough, Prince Kong came blasting out of Ireland in early ’09 with
the “Crossroads” single and I Make Me Rigid EP. Following up the
latter, Proper Horror Show offers eight more tracks of the unrelenting
dance-floor attack for which Kong is quickly becoming famous. The
Prince Kong style is a syncretic one that brings together elements of
dubstep, grime, jungle, and ragga, swirling them together to create a
new paradigm that’s somehow bigger than the sum of its parts.
Kong’s
buzzing bass beats, in-your-face breaks, and stark, dance-or-die
atmospheres set the scene in no uncertain terms, but just as important
to Proper Horror Show’s sound are the guest vocalists who command the
forefront on each track, including Jah Balance, MC Rodrigo, and perhaps
most impressive of all, Lady Grew, who almost steals the show from Kong
on “Whatcha” and “Marchfloor.” (Limewire)

Following their Prince Kong drop last year, Ghetto Quietly serve two
diverse and leftfield riddims. A-Force is in control for 'Orere 3000', a
lumber-jacking house cut with bold, bouncing toms and spacious sound
design. Eomac's 'Shufflesteppa' takes the flipside for a unique garage
mission with corkscrewing 2-step rhythms in a very wonky, febrile
arrangement. Heavy. (Boomkat)

Four filthy ragga cuts from New York/Dublin's Lady Grew, following drops
from Prince Kong on Dublin/Berlin-based Ghetto Quietly records. The
riddims are kept stringently stripped but optimised for maximum pressure
while Lady Grew spouts all kinda madness over the top. Imagine Soom-T
working with The Bug and you've got the idea. Fierce!!!
